Sunday School 2010/2011: A Place to Grow

The theme of this year's Sunday school program is "A Place to Grow." We invite children, ages three through high school, to come grow in their understanding of God and faith by exploring the stories of the Bible and then connecting them to their daily lives through actions and behaviors. The stories that children will be learning in Sunday school are the same stories that are heard each Sunday in worship. Each Sunday, students are given a "Faith Token" that will be a reminder of the main point of the Bible story and an invitation to live out their faith that week in some action. They will also be given journals to write or draw about how they lived out their faith during the week. On the church's Facebook page they can post their thoughts or pictures about their "Faith Token" actions.

In One Place: On the First Sunday of each month, there will be no Sunday school. Instead we will all worship together in worship services (9:00 & 10:30 a.m.) intentionally designed to engage children and their families, as well as everyone else! To help do this, we are asking families to actively participate in leadership roles. Below is a list of ways families with children can participate:

  • Read the lessons and/or help serve communion
  • Bake bread for that Sunday and bring it forward with the wine for communion
  • Be greeters and/or ushers
  • Illustrate by drawings or photography, one of the Scripture readings or different parts of the service (Gathering/Word/Meal/Sending). Pictures will be scanned and projected on the large screen during worship.
  • Run the sound system and/or power point during worship
